This Blessed Month of Ramadan
In The Name of Allah
, The Gracious, The Merciful
This Blessed Month of Ramadan
As Salaamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah!
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
We have spent more than one half of the month of Ramadan in the worship of Almighty Allah
, let us continue to strive together and direct our attention to the objective of acquiring Taqwa. Our worship of Allah
during the sacred month will bring its own reward, but perhaps reflection and contemplation will also reveal other possibilities to us.
Allah
says in His Book (Qur’an 2 :185) “Ramadan is the month in which was sent down the Qur’an, a Guidance for humanity, Clarification of The Guidance “, which He, The Almighty, describes elsewhere (Qur’an 10:57) as=2 0″a guidance, healing and a mercy”, “therefore,” He says, “…everyone of you who is present during that month should spend it in fasting.”
There are many, many more opportunities ahead of us to draw nearer to Allah
. I bring to mind the remaining obligations
* Seeking the Night of Power, the night in which the Glorious Quran began to be revealed to humanity, a night the measure of which is a thousand months.
* The Blessings of Itikaf in the Masjid for men and in the home for women
* To pay our Zakat ul Fitr
* And of course the Blessed Day of Eid
It is the tradition of our faith during this time of year to particularly bathe our minds, hearts, and collective consciousness in the Book of Allah
, through daily reading and recitation of the Quran. Let us continue each day rededicating ourselves both individually and in groups, at home, in the masjid, and elsewhere. By so doing we will experience=2 0degrees of healing, and an expansion of our awareness – an awareness that we so desperately need in this day and time and place.
Allah
’s Messenger (peace be upon him) instructed us that if we, the fasters, don’t give up speaking falsely and acting in accordance with that falsehood, then Allah
has no need of us giving up our food and drink. Let us strive therefore to eradicate those falsehoods – those imperfections of cha racter, and spiritual toxins within ourselves and our collective faith communities, for it is these which impede our personal and communal progress.
Last but foremost, as you lift your hands and hearts in supplication (du’a) to Allah
this month asking Allah
for what you need, please pray for our Ummah throughout the world and more specifically here in the United States of America for our success, enlightenment, protection, and guidance.
May Allah
shower you with blessings and illuminate your Ramadan. Ramadan Mubarak!
Sincerely, Your brother in Al-Islam,
Imam Abdullah Faaruuq
